Happy (belated) Halloween!

From October 25 through November 26, I will be challenging myself with the Whole30 in order to change my lifestyle and live a healthier life. Throughout those 30 days, I will be posting my daily progress, food, activities, mood, and sleep. This is more for my own personal accountability, but I would be more than happy for you to follow me on my journey or even try it yourself.

I took a few days away from my computer this week to spend some quality time with my handsome man on our days off. We had a great time and stayed pretty active. I had some hard times dealing with the loss of some foods this week too. I found myself almost in tears Wednesday night sitting at Yardhouse for dinner. I couldn’t find anything on the menu that I could have that sounded as amazing as any of the carbohydrate loaded dishes. The only thing I could really eat, guilt free, was a salad. That thought made me so upset. Angry. Sad. Depressed. After some perspective over the past couple of days, I realized how sad and pathetic it is that many American food restaurants can’t offer healthy dishes other than a salad. It’s terrible! Yardhouse didn’t even have any healthy chicken dishes! I am truly disgusted.

Day seven: October 31, 2012

Sleep: Approximately 9 to 10 hours of sleep. Had to wake up early the next day, so i went to bed at about 10 to 10:30 ish.

Activity: TheCrossFit Inland Valley partner WOD with Rob. It was a good workout.

Mood: I felt great after my workout. As soon as we went to lunch and then dinner however, I was feeling a little depressed and mournful of the foods I can’t eat anymore.

Food:

Breakfast: Hard-boiled egg pre-WOD

Snack: None

Lunch: Protein roll from Hana Sushi. I was actually surprised and happy to find this on the menu. It has no rice and is made up of spicy tuna, ebi, asparagus, krab, salmon, hamachi, albacore, sliced red onion, seaweed wrap and topped with hot ponzu sauce. Yum!

Snack: Kale chips and some SeaSnax seaweed

Dinner: Chopped salad with chicken and some sweet potato fries from Yardhouse

Day eight: November 1, 2012

Sleep: 8 to 9 hours. Went to bed late after seeing a scary movie for Halloween, but slept in a little bit. Did have some bad dreams and tossed and turned for a little bit.

Activity: Went on a 6.5 mile hike with Rob up in Santa Rosa plateau. Had a great time! Saw some squirrels, a coyote, and a mule deer.

Mood: I still felt upset about the foods I could no longer eat, but my long hike helped me not to think about anything.

Food:

Breakfast: Beef burger patty with two eggs, a slice of bacon, and a slice of tomato with some jalapeño Tabasco sauce

Snack: Kale chips

Lunch: None. Was running late to a friend’s barbeque.

Snack: Raw yam slices

Dinner: Tri tip and chicken with homemade yam chips

Day nine: November 2, 2012

Sleep: About 8 hours. Went to bed fairly early, but didn’t sleep well. The boyfriend’s dog kept waking me throughout the night.

Activity: None today.

Mood: I’m not feeling too hot today. I think I may be getting sick with a cold. I’ve been eating healthy and working out. I’ve been taking good care of my body, so why the heck am I getting sick?!

Food:

Breakfast: None. Drove home from Orange County this morning just in time for lunch

Snack: None

Lunch: Steamed artichoke with Paleo mayo for dipping

Snack: SeaSnax

Dinner: Grilled chicken with Frank’s hot sauce and broccoli
